Every Day, I Feel the Deepest Joy

Bruce (2025)

Every day, I feel the deepest sense of joy I have ever experienced.

I began my fertility journey in 2021. Losing my father that year and the COVID-19 pandemic put a lot of big life goals into perspective, and I realized that my desire to be a mother meant that without a partner, I was ready to begin my journey solo. In my early 40s as a single mom by choice, I began IVF with donor sperm. My numbers were all good or average “for my age” so I forged ahead—but ended up having six failed embryo transfers over the next 3 years. In that time, I exhausted my fertility insurance and my savings. After much soul searching, I decided that I was ready to open my heart up to adoption, but that I was emotionally attached to the idea of pregnancy and the bond that I would share with the child from that experience. I came across Embryo Connections through an online IVF support group and instantly felt like I moved from black-and-white to color. I knew this was the path that would lead me to motherhood. I quickly matched with an amazing donor family, who exceeded my expectations both in our commonalities and their kindness. They donated three euploid embryos to me, frozen back in 2014. Going in for my now seventh embryo transfer, I carried the weight of 6 failures heavily with me. But this time, instead of disappointment, everything went smoothly and I had a big, beautiful positive beta, and an appropriate rise two days later. Within a year of my first outreach to Embryo Connections, I was officially pregnant for the very first time. The pregnancy progressed normally from there, without any major complications. In October 2025, at 45 years old, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy Bruce at 35 weeks, when he decided he was ready to meet the world a little early.

Every day I gaze into Bruce’s eyes and feel the deepest sense of joy I have ever experienced. The gift of embryo adoption has fundamentally changed my life in such a profound way that I cannot help but advocate for it at every opportunity possible. I have the child that my heart yearned for—and I am so excited to be able to share with him the story of how he came into this world when he is old enough to comprehend. I am so grateful to Embryo Connections and lucky to live in an age of science and medicine that enabled Bruce and I to find each other.
