Donating our embryos and watching a stranger become a mom to our genetic baby has been one of the most uncomplicated complicated things we have ever done!
We spent so much time agonizing about whether this was the stupidest/craziest thing to do, or the most amazingly awesome. Turns out it was the latter!
We did have a few glitches along the way, but we are thrilled to see a woman with so much love to give raise a baby that we were able to gift her. We have a fantastic relationship with her, despite being across the country from each other. She sends pictures and updates, and my husband met her and baby Judah on a business trip to her hometown!
None of the complicated emotions we were concerned about have reared their ugly heads. Of course, the baby is still under a year old so we will see how things feel over time. But for now it has been so fun to see pictures and videos, think about which of our kids he looks like, and know that we have done each other a mutual favor - she brought an embryo of ours into the world and is providing him with a loving, full life, and we gave her the gift of motherhood.
I look forward to watching him grow and meeting him someday!
